In 2017, Michelada Think Tank, a collective of socially conscious artists, educators, and activists of color, developed the “Decolonize Dallas” booklet as part of a larger series of events and exhibitions. ¹ The project aimed to challenge the dominant narratives of Dallas’s history by highlighting the experiences and perspectives of marginalized communities.

Through art, historical research, and community engagement, the booklet sought to uncover the truths behind the city’s founding and development, acknowledging the impact of colonization, displacement, and systemic racism on its diverse populations. By reclaiming and reinterpreting historical narratives, “Decolonize Dallas” aimed to foster dialogue, promote healing, and inspire action towards a more equitable future for the city.
